On July 15, 2011 the FCC released the Final Rules for LPTV, Class A and Translator Stations for digital transition. Prior to September 1, 2015 all analog TV broadcast stations must discontinue operation and either go dark or start broadcasting on their assigned DTV channel. The Media Bureau has released a public notice announcing publication of the Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking and Memorandum Opinion and Order (FNPRM) considering issues related to completing the low-power television station digital transition that was published in the Federal Register on Oct. 18.
Publication in the Federal Register started the pleading cycle for the LPDTV Transition FNPRM,MB Docket No. 10-148. As a result, comments are due Friday, Dec. 17, and reply comments are due Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011. For more information click here or go to www.fcc.gov.

The FCC has released a a Second Memorandum Opinion and Order (Second MO&O) on the White Spaces Proceeding. As stated by the FCC:
"The Federal Communications Commission today [9/23/10] took steps to free up vacant airwaves between TV channels --called "white spaces" -- to unleash a host of new technologies, such as super Wi-Fi, and myriad other diverse applications. This is the first significant block of spectrum made available for unlicensed use in more than 20 years...."
